Product Overview
This quick-reference laminated guide by Julie Weatherly, Esq. presents public school educators with comprehensive recommendations for developing legally defensible Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). It identifies some of the most common process and content mistakes made in developing IEPs and offers detailed guidance for avoiding these mistakes. Following the specific suggestions in this guide will help you develop educationally effective IEPs that are in compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), accompanying federal regulations, official agency directives, and established legal precedent.
The guide provides educators with an understanding of the overall legal standard for free appropriate education (FAPE), then lists the top 10 process mistakes when developing IEPs and how to avoid them, followed by the top eight content mistakes and how to avoid them.
While not a substitute for appropriate legal counsel, this guide provides IEP teams with a strong foundation in legal requirements and useful direction for creating IEPs that are well-constructed, effective, and defensible.
