Product Overview

Bullying is one of the most pervasive forms of violence in our society today. And the setting where bullying occurs most often is in school-related environments, such as on the bus, on the playground, at lunch, or in the hallways. While bullying prevention requires a schoolwide focus, teachers are best positioned to address the issue of school bullying. Because they know their students well and often spend more time with them than any other school staff member. Teachers also play a key role in identifying behaviors that may signal that a student has been bullied and can quickly intervene when incidents do arise. With its dramatic increase in recent years, cyberbullying has become a very serious concern of parents, school administrators and law enforcement officials. While cyberbullying is most often initiated off school grounds, its effects are felt in schools in the form of distressed students who have been cyberbullied and other students who feel a sense of vulnerability. Schools thus have an obligation to act in response to cyberbullying to safeguard their student population. Dr. Kenneth Shore has written a valuable reference guide designed to help teachers and other school professionals both prevent bullying incidents and respond to them when they occur. Specific research and evidence-based strategies are provided that teachers can readily implement in their classrooms. The guide provides information on:

• The Bullying Basics
• Ways to Prevent School Bullying
• Dealing with Bullying Incidents
• Cyberbullying
• School Strategies for Dealing with Cyberbullying
