Product Overview
This quick-reference laminated guide by special education law expert Julie Weatherly, Esq. equips school administrators with 13 essential, easy-to-understand Rules of Discipline for navigating the complexities of disciplining students with disabilities. Drawing from the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and informed by key regulations, court rulings, and U.S. Department of Education guidance, the Rules are designed to provide school leaders with clarity and confidence in making disciplinary decisions that are legally sound and aligned with students’ rights.
A collaborative publication of National Professional Resources and the Council of Administrators of Special Education (CASE), the guide offers practical guidance and helps educators apply the Rules effectively in real-world situations by addressing common scenarios and frequently asked questions, including ones related to change of placement, criminal behavior, disciplining non-disables students who are in the evaluation process, and differences between IDEA and Section 504 rules.
