Book Proposal Guidelines for Prospective Authors

We are interested in publishing work in the following areas:

  • Character Education
  • The Intelligences
  • Special Education
  • Gifted Education

Thank you for considering National Professional Resources as a potential publisher for your work. We appreciate the opportunity to review your proposal and generally provide a response within 30 days.

Generally, the proposal should contain the following:

  1. A suggested title for the book
  2. A table of contents
  3. A sample chapter
  4. Biographical information about the author or authors
  5. A two-page (600 word) statement defining the need for the book and the book's distinctive contribution.

The two-page statement should address the questions listed below. Because many of the questions overlap, a single passage may answer more than one question.

  1. The need for this book: What conditions, problems, or opportunities have created a need for the information in this book?
  2. Purpose: How will this book answer that need?
  3. Benefits: How will readers benefit from reading and applying the concepts in this book? How will the quality of their personal and/or professional lives improve? Specifically, what tasks will they be able to perform more effectively or efficiently as a result of applying these ideas?
  4. Audience: What group or groups of people will benefit from reading this book? (e.g., language arts teachers, middle grades and high school.)
  5. Competitive position: What other books have been published recently on this subject?
  6. Distinctiveness: How is this book different from or better than other publications on the subject?
  7. Author qualifications: What specific academic or professional experience provides the author or authors with authoritative insight into this subject?
  8. The selling "hook." Can all of the above be condensed into a single sentence that captures the reader's attention and conveys the importance of this work? Example, "The first practical guide to integrating and measuring multiple intelligences in the early grades, based new field research."
